Francis Ford Coppola’s ‘Megalopolis’ Lands Raunchy Rating

Francis Ford Coppola's science fiction film Megalopolis is slated for late this year.  

The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, where the audience witnessed its mind-bending, mesmerizing trailer.   

The film took a while to find a distributor, but it now has a September release date and a rating.  

Coppola has spent decades gathering images, world events, and allusions for this passion project.   

The film depicts Ceaser (Driver), a New York architect who aspires to reconstruct the city as a utopia after a calamity. It is inspired by real-world events and Roman mythology.  

The director listed several persons, artists, and events that inspired him. New York's most intriguing cases—the Claus von Bülow murder case, the Mary Cunningham–William Agee Bendix controversy, Maria Bartiromo's rise, and the financial crisis under former Mayor Dinkins—will be influential.  

The R-rating fits the picture because of the scandals and connection to real-life events.  

The film stars Nathalie Emmanuel as Julia Cicero, Aubrey Plaza as Wow Platinum, Shia LaBeouf as Clodio Pulcher, Jon Voight as Hamilton Crassus III, and Laurence Fishburne as Fundi Romaine, the narrator
