Fall’s Cutest Nail-Art Trend: Highlighter as “Cuticle Shadow”

We've all gotten creative with highlighters on occasion. When necessary, we've applied it to our cheekbones, eyes, noses, lips, clavicles, shoulders, and legs.

Ever considered putting it on your hands? I hadn't, but Instagram nail-art whiz Eun Kyung Park (you may know her from Unistella) has inspired me to try it.

My attention wasn't drawn to her September 18 slideshow of a nude manicure with giant gold jewelry. I couldn't look away from her iridescent pink glittered cuticles despite all the bling.

Park calls the nail feature "cuticle shadow." in her Instagram caption. I can only image how quickly a trend will spread online in nail and beauty forums.

Diamond Bomb in Holo At Me, an upcoming Fenty Beauty drop, is a chunky glitter highlighter that transitions from purple to pink in different light situations, explaining the photo's blinding shine.

Park tells Allure that she's been combining makeup and nail art lately, which led to cuticle shadow.

"I'm really interested in doing makeup on my nails and hands these days," explains. "Drawing dots and applying highlighter were all inspired by makeup."

Naturally, Euphoria's makeup and Zendaya's Rue inspired her creation. Even though Rue rarely wears makeup on the program, her occasional glitter-smeared eye appearance inspired Park to create cuticle shadow.
