Even Without a Straight Line, You Can Do Nail Art

You need no man. Washick's successful Tumblr "U need a manicure" has become a professional mantra. Washick used nail art as therapy when a long-term relationship ended, starting a new one with polish.

"I was a complete amateur!" she admits, "Doing my nails every week and trying different things improved my skills.

Over time, I acquired my own style and perspective. I acquired my license and became a professional after that."

Washick recommends starting with color for nail art beginners without a career shift. Color is crucial in nail art. Whatever design you make, color will draw attention, and there are techniques to determine it.

She advises beginners and non-artists to use two high-contrast hues of the same color. If using red, try pale pink with deep burgundy.

Washick suggests light blue with deep navy. "Once you get the that down, you can create more complex color palettes by applying the high contrast to the complimentary colors,

which are colors opposite of each other on the color wheel: blue and orange, red and green, yellow and purple.

For forms, beginners should start with larger, more organic shapes. Sharp angles and straight lines are toughest."
